1. Mountain Lion Mac OS X 10.8:
Living with the new OS for a few weeks now and the main attractions at this point are built-in system wide Dictation and integration with the Apple TV. Dictation works well but needs the computer to be online as it sends the speech to a remote computer for processing. Also it first needs to be activated in System Preferences/Dictation and Speech.
You need Mountain Lion (or Lion 10.7) to use iCloud which keeps your Contacts and Calendars synced across your i-devices. Very nice to not have to plug it into your Mac to do this. It also means that if you turn on Photo Stream any pics you take with your iPhoto or iPad camera will be beamed into your Mac automatically, whether you’re in the same country or not. Magical.

3. Khan Academy Offers Free Video Tuition:
This free learning by video website was created and inspired as a means to offer “a free world-class education for anyone anywhere”. Fantastic resource.

4. Maps+ As a Replacement for Apple Maps:
This free app uses Google’s mapping data and offers a few extra features, but the point is that it is like the good old Google Maps instead of Apple’s own I-need-to-be-fixed offering.

5. Video Conferencing for Free:
Enabling up to 15 people to video conference for free is pretty cool. Download a small app from the Zoom site and away you go. Read about it in the 2nd link below.
