Mr Mac Update August 12

Hello There Macintosh User!

If you are getting this email you have sometime been a client of mine —
Thank you for your past custom!

Mr Mac Facebook:

1. Mountain Lion Mac OS X 10.8:
Amongst a heap of ‘new features’ that we are told about with every new version of Mac OS X is a great one if you have an Apple TV — the little wireless gizmo that connects to your LCD TV. Now anything on the screen of your Mac can be mirrored the telly. A video you are watching, an iPhoto slideshow etc. All can be streamed to the telly by clicking the little icon at the top right of the screen and choosing Apple TV. Magic!

2. Learn a Language:
Becoming multilingual can be done at home on your Mac. BUSUU is free too and has courses and apps for mobile devices and computers.

3. Send a Report to Council:
SnapSendSolve will appeal to inhabitants of our Shire and many others. It lets you create a Report to your council  from the site of the issue. You can take a photo of a pothole or a fallen tree and send it straight to Council. Uses GPS to find the nearest council to the problem.

4. Hippo Remote:
For $5 this app will turn your iPhone or iPod Touch into a fully featured remote control, a wireless mouse, a gamepad etc.

5. Apps in Education:
A page to help you find relevant apps for use in education from amongst the hundreds of thousands available. Very good for educators...

6. Cheapest Mobile Company:
For unreal prices on mobile plans try these guys, who use the Optus network How about $39.95 per month unlimited calls and texts! You supply your own phone.

7. Candy Bar Icons:
Previously costing about $30, the developer has now made these free. You can create custom icons for your folders with this fun tool.

8. Office on iPads for Free!:
InstallFree Nexus is free plus a premium service should you require it. It lets you open and edit files in Microsoft’s Word, Excel and Powerpoint formats via a web browser like Safari and an app on the iPad. There is a video on the website explaining how it works, looks pretty good.

9. Sound Tweaker – Audio Xciter:
Called Audio Xciter this little app makes your music sound better. Free or $5 for more tweakings.

10. Fleksy for Typing:
Originally created for blind people to make use of iPhones more easily, Fleksy is being feted by all types of users as being the best predictive texting app around. Free for a while.

11. A Reminder of My Rates:
I charge $88 per hour including GST. No call-out fee or travel charge in the Byron Shire.
