1. Download YouTube Videos:
A perennial problem, but one that is foxed with MacTubes for free. Lets you choose the format you want – MP4 is usually the best unless you want HD footage – and you search YouTube from inside the app itself. Works well.

2. Extract Audio from Video in Lion:
Lion OS X 10.7 has a new quite brilliant feature: you can extract audio from video right in the Finder. Very handy. You right-click the video file you want to extract the audio from (for example you have a YouTube video clip and you want just the sound track) and choose Services from the pop-up menu. Then you get a window that lets you choose what you want to do. Here there is a Setting: pop-up where you can choose Audio only.

3. ArtFinder App:
The website of the same name now has a free app for i-Devices.

4. Leap – a Possible New Way of Computer Interaction:
If you remember Minority Report, a Tom Cruise sci-fi movie based on the Philip K. Dick book in which he uses his hand motions to control his computer, then you’ll appreciate the buzz that this company is generating with it’s Leap Motion device. It only costs about $70 and works with Mac of course, but the possibility to control your Mac with one of these is what is so astounding. Coming soon, pre-order now.

5. Photographer Software:
This box of products is for photographers only, who should love them. A variety of tools including black and white images, noise reduction etc from $199 each to $300 for the whole lot.

6. SnapSeed:
From the same guys as the suite above but at only $21 via the App Store, but it does a lot less!

7. Record Their Amazing Adventures With Game Capture:
Most of us have or know of kids (and adults) who play adventure games. Now they can record the action for later viewing, and uploading to YouTube if required. Made by the EyeTV people who bring the telly to your Mac, Game Capture offers to record whatever happens on the computer, not just gaming although that’s what most people use it for.

8. AirParrot:
For $10 you can view your Mac screen on the TV wirelessly via your Apple TV. This feature is apparently coming in the next operating system, Mountain Lion, but for 10 bucks you can do it now with AirParrot. Whatever is open on your Mac is put onto the Apple TV.

9. View Your iDevice On Your Mac:
Of main use to educators who want to show the iPhone or iPad on a big screen, Reflection lets you do just that in real time so you can change and adjust while the class can see what you are doing. $15.

10. Send Any Audio from Your Mac to Any iOS Device:
Airfoil lets you stream any audio from your Mac to your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch via your WiFi network, not just iTunes. You need the $25 AirFoil app for your Mac and the free Airfoil Speakers Touch from the iTunes App Store. It also acts as a remote control and can send to several devices at once.
